To: Students Registering for Internships
From: Dr. Sara Horsfall
Subject: Arrangements prior
to the beginning of classes.
Prior to the start of classes in whichever semester you plan to do your internship, it is necessary that those students who have signed up for an internship be thinking about where they will work for 125 hours.
This is a voluntary position with no remuneration (no pay) in an area that coincides with your academic interests and career goals. The intent is to provide you with professional experience in the work world so that you have a head start when it comes to getting a job once you graduate. It is not unheard of for an intern to be hired for a job once they have completed their internship.
It is your responsibility to find a place to do your internship. In order to work 125 hours during the semester it is necessary that you find a place prior to the beginning of classes, or shortly thereafter. You will be at a great disadvantage if you wait until classes begin to start looking for a position. There are resources and guidance available to help you. Please refer to the list of places and contact persons for Texas Wesleyan Interns in the past. There may be many other places that would be suitable. Check with me before settling on something.
Once you settle on a place to do your internship, it must be approved. The agency must complete some paperwork to be approved. This paper work is available outside my office (Room 201 Dan Waggoner Annex). You also must sign a form prior to beginning the internship. All paper work must be returned to me. NO HOURS WILL BE COUNTED BEFORE THE PAPERWORK IS TURNED IN.
Please make sure that I have your current phone number, and email address (if you have one) so that I can contact you if necessary.
During the semester there will be a meeting time about once a month - usually Tuesdays 5:30-7 PM. The meeting place is usually in my office. These meetings are very important and attendance at them will be a significant proportion of your grade. Please make plans to attend them.
Keep in touch with me to be informed about other aspects of the internship. This is your responsibility.
